Fishburn and Hughes: "A German religious historian and patrologist, famous for his formulation of Gnosticism as 'the acute Hellenisation of Christianity'. Harnack was opposed to any form of 'Hellenisation' (the interpretation of early Christianity in the light of Greek tradition), holding that Greek sources were an intrusion into Christian theology.
